As a student in the Master of Social Work program, you'll have access to several scholarships and funding opportunities to help finance your degree.

Abbott Scholars

  • MSW Program: Hybrid MSW program students (Advanced or Traditional) 
  • Residency Requirement: Stockton residents only 
  • Description: Provides scholarship support and specialized training to students who live in Stockton and are interested in pursuing health social work careers focused on diabetes prevention, education and management in their community. 
  • Abbott Fund Scholars agree to the following: 
    • Completion of the Health Care specialization track, including a sub-specialization of Diabetes Care and Management in Stockton. 
    • Completion of a workshop series, an elective course, a capstone project and 31-week field placement in diabetes care and management 
    • Two-year service commitment in Stockton after graduation 
    • Abbott Scholars may not receive the Abbott Scholarship in addition to the HealthForce Partners scholarship.  Students are welcome to apply for both scholarships but can only be awarded one.

HealthForce Partners Behavioral Health
Scholarships (Stanislaus)

  • MSW Program: Hybrid MSW program students (Advanced or Traditional) 
  • Residency/Work Requirement: Stanislaus County residents and/or students who commit to work Stanislaus County after graduation 
  • Description: Provides scholarship support for students who live in Modesto or Stanislaus County, to infuse locally grown talent for behavioral health work force development. 
  • Eligible students must meet the following criteria: 
    • A personal statement of up to 500 words is required from the applicant to describe their connection to the Modesto / Stanislaus County community and / or how they would invest their time in the Modesto / Stanislaus County community.  
    • Preference for students who reside or whose home residence is in Modesto or greater Stanislaus County and have expressed their intent to work with Behavioral Health & Recovery Services or at another community-based organization serving Modesto residents following the completion of their degree programs.  
    • Recipients must maintain satisfactory academic progress towards master’s degree attainment with a GPA of at least 3.0.  
    • Students must be a U.S Citizen, eligible non-citizen or Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals.

HealthForce Partners Behavioral Health
Scholarships (San Joaquin)

  • MSW Program: Hybrid MSW program students (Advanced or Traditional) 
  • Residency/Work Requirement: San Joaquin County residents and/or students who commit to work in San Joaquin County after graduation 
  • Description: Provides scholarship support for students who live in San Joaquin County, to infuse locally grown talent for behavioral health work force development.  
  • Eligible students must meet the following criteria: 
    • A personal statement of up to 500 words is required from the applicant to describe their connection to the San Joaquin County community and / or how they would invest their time in the San Joaquin County community.  
    • Preference for students who live in San Joaquin County or have expressed their intent to work at the Behavioral Health Services or at another community-based organization serving San Joaquin County residents following the completion of their degree programs.  
    • Recipients must maintain satisfactory academic progress towards master’s degree attainment with a GPA of at least 3.0.  
    • Students must be a U.S Citizen, eligible non-citizen or Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals.  

$2,000 scholarship

Dean's Resilience Endowed Scholarship (Social Work) 

  • MSW Program: Hybrid MSW program students (Advanced or Traditional) 
  • Residency Requirement: Central Valley or Northern California residents only 
  • Description: Provides scholarship support to a student from our diverse regional community who has overcome tremendous challenges to access higher education.  
  • Eligible students must meet the following criteria: 
    • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 
    • From the Central Valley or Northern California 
    • Preferences for a student who is from a historically underrepresented group in Social Work and / or their geographic area. 
    • Has financial need 
    • Enrolled in the School of Health Sciences in the fall trimester each year.

Behavioral Health Workforce Education and Training 

  • MSW Program: Hybrid MSW program students (Advanced or Traditional) 
  • Residency Requirement: California 
  • Description: Provides scholarship support to students interested in addressing the mental health needs of youth, particularly in K-12 school-based environments. 
  • Preference for students who: 
    • Have overcome educational disadvantages 
    • Demonstrate a strong desire to work with youth 
    • Demonstrate a strong desire to serve in underserved areas after graduation

Justice System Involved Youth Scholarships   

  • MSW Program: Hybrid MSW program students (Advanced or Traditional) 
  • Residency Requirement: California 
  • Description: Provides scholarship support for social work students to encourage underrepresented individuals to pursue health careers and develop a more culturally and linguistically competent healthcare workforce.   
  • Preference is given to students who meet most of the following criteria: 
    • From a family that has been economically disadvantaged 
    • Educational and/or environmental circumstances have impacted their educational pursuits 
    • Involvement with the justice system in the past or currently 
    • Experienced homelessness or inadequate housing in the past or currently 
    • Current or former foster youth
