Happy Social Work Month from University of the Pacific!

March is Social Work Month.

Every March, we celebrate Social Work Month, a time to recognize the dedication, impact, and leadership of social workers who uplift individuals, defend human dignity, and transform lives every day.

The 2026 theme, Social Work: Uplift. Defend. Transform., reflects the heart of the profession’s mission: enhancing human well-being and meeting the basic needs of all people, especially those who are vulnerable, oppressed, or living in poverty.

In a time marked by cultural, political, and economic uncertainty, social workers stand as champions of equity and connection. From advocating for accessible mental health care to defending the rights of marginalized populations, they bridge divides, amplify voices, and foster resilience. This month, we celebrate their compassion, perseverance, and unwavering commitment to creating a more just world.

Why we celebrate social work month

First established in 1963 by The National Association of Social Workers (NASW), Social Work Month was created to build public understanding of the profession and to honor the essential role social workers play in strengthening communities. Today, it’s an opportunity to recognize more than 810,000 social workers nationwide who serve on the front lines of change supporting individuals, families, and communities as they navigate complex challenges and work toward lasting well-being.
