Edgar is an Assistant Clinical Professor for the Master of Social Work Program at Pacific, where he has been teaching as a faculty member since 2021. With over 12 years of experience in Medical Social Work, he has worked in various settings, including clinics, mental health facilities, and hospitals. A Southern California native, Edgar earned his Master of Public Health and Master of Social Work degrees from the University of Southern California's Keck School of Medicine. His career has primarily focused on critical care, with experience in hospital intensive care units, medical-surgical units, telemetry, and the neonatal intensive care unit. More recently, he has expanded into palliative care, serving with Kaiser Hospice in the greater Sacramento area.
In addition, Edgar has experience in patient-centered case management, emergency department trauma care, and outpatient clinic social work. He has also contributed to UC-Davis' Early Detection and Prevention of Prodromal Psychosis program and worked with Sutter Health. The most recent chapter of his clinical career was at Kaiser Permanente in the Trauma Center at South Sacramento during the summer of 2024.
Outside of work, Edgar enjoys spending time with his children, Nico and Leslie. As a family, they are passionate about classic cars and travel across California to explore and learn about the state's rich history. One of their proudest achievements was restoring a 1966 Mustang from the ground up.
Currently, Edgar is also a second-year Doctoral student at the Benerd School of Education at the University of the Pacific, where he researches mental health, health education, and health perspectives, particularly concerning Latino and underrepresented populations.
