Amelia Mahan, DSW, LCSW,  has over 20 years of social work experience, primarily in healthcare settings in North Carolina and California. Her passions include teaching, ecological justice, and rural health. She began her professional social work career in refugee resettlement, then worked in community and hospital mental health. Later, she transitioned to policy, program management, and training facilitation, focusing first on behavioral health integration, then on community home health and hospice, with Peace Corps Malawi volunteer service in between. Dr. Mahan serves on the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), Council on Environmental Justice and Human Rights (CEJHR). 

Her life joys include travel, hiking, books, movies, jigsaw puzzles, coffee, and loving on her fur-baby mutts, Cricket and Teddy. She and her husband are on a mission to visit all 433 U.S. National Park sites. As of the summer of 2026, they have visited 330! 

Dr. Mahan received her Bachelor and Master of Social Work degrees from the University of Georgia and her Doctorate of Social Work degree from Simmons University.
